Altered peripheral nerve function resulting from haemodialysis.

چکیده
The amplitudes of muscle and nerve action potentials evoked median nerve stimulation were recorded just before and immediately after haemodialysis. These revealed a growht of action potential amplitude during dialysis. It is suggested that some component of the defective peripheral nerve function that inevitably accompanies uraemia is temporarily improved during dialysis.

Electrophysiological course of uraemic neuropathy in haemodialysis patients.
The objective of this study was to confirm electrophysiologically both the presence and course of uraemic neuropathy in haemodialysis patients. Nerve conduction studies of the lower extremities were done in 70 haemodialysis patients and 20 normal volunteers. Compared with that in normal volunteers, the distal motor latency in the tibial nerve of patients was prolonged significantly (p<0.05), an...
متن کاملImprovement in open-angle glaucoma by nocturnal home haemodialysis.
Open-angle glaucoma (OAG) is a common ocular abnormality seen in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) [1]. Although the pathogenesis of OAG is not yet fully understood, lowering intraocular pressure is the accepted treatment goal. Without adequate treatment, glaucoma can lead to visual disability and eventual blindness [2]. From a simplified viewpoint, intraocular pressure is determined...
متن کاملNanotechnology for peripheral nerve regeneration
Peripheral nerve injuries (PNI) can lead to lifetime loss of function and disfigurement. Different methods such as conventional allograft procedures and using of biological tubes have problems for damaged peripheral nerves reconstruction. Designed scaffolds with natural and synthetic materials are now widely used in the reconstruction of damaged tissues. Utilization of absorbable and non-absorb...

متن کاملAltered Suppressor Function of Regulatory T Cells in Type 1 Diabetes
Background: Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a T cell mediated autoimmune disease targeting the insulin-producing β cells within pancreatic islets. Autoimmune diseases may develop as a consequence of altered balance between regulatory (Tregs) and autoreactive T cells. Objectives: To evaluate Treg cells frequency and suppressive function in the peripheral blood of newly diagnosed T1D patients in compari...
